6 + 1 Traits - Organization
What do you have without organization? Beautiful chaos. With my writing I can lack the skill of organization and get completly lost. One of the 6 + 1 Traits that I value is being organized with your writing. To be able to express your ideas to other people , they need to understand what you are talking about. Your thoughts can't be scattered when you actually write it all down. I dont think that you can write a great paper without organizing anything. There have been many times when my paper fell short because it was poorly organized. I feel there have been times when I've had great ideas but I dont now where to put them. For me I have to organize or I really have nothing to put dow into a constructed paper because i didn't know where to start due to my thoughts, and ideas being all over the place. Organizing definitely saves a lot of trouble in the end. You know what you want to write down to say and can produce an excellent paper.

We talked about lists today, but I would recommend using highlighters. Start writing anything at all (you mentioned free writing works well for you) and then try highlighting things that go well together.
ReplyDeleteIt also helps me to try to write the most important parts of my ideas in 1-2 sentences, and then give details, examples and discussion as an extension of that key idea. That way, the reader has a sentence or two to come back to when they start to get lost.
Kara,
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about your dilemma earlier today about writing more about the 'question' and less about possible solutions. What if you looked at what made the Woodstock generation revolutionary? You could explore that in one piece, and talk about if your generation has the equivalent (or not) in another piece .. and maybe how to use those impetuses to create change or inspire action.
Here are some resources I found:
Someone who feels the same as you about needing a change now - http://www.theseminal.com/2007/07/22/hoping-for-a-new-countercultural-revolution/
Someone talking about the role of music in the Woodstock generation - http://pewsocialtrends.org/pubs/739/woodstock-gentler-generation-gap-music-by-age
A group that regularly marches in DC - http://revolutionmarch.blogspot.com/
A site by the League of Young Voters that declares "my generation will make a change" - http://99problems.org/2010/05/my-generation-will-make-a-change/
Thank you for the ideas and inspiration. I had still been struggling with this topic , but now I am more sure and more confident in what I want to write about. I took a look at the website you had mentioned to me in class when I struggled with the topic , change.org. , this alo helped me gain a better understanding of what I wanted to express in my writing.
ReplyDeleteCool. I can't wait to see your post from last week on your portfolio ... and a draft later this week of your first piece!
